In the end, I reached that part and the view was gorgeous. Didnt know that they build such a thing for this. And you know what, this reminds me of the peak in HongKong, only better.
Then I wanted to take the train down, but realised that I had to pay 35 Kr. (Only to realise the next day that my Bergen cards gets me a ride up and down for free) Not worth it. Cos going down is so much easier. Then I tried to follow the road and signs to get down, but the 1st sign points up slope, to my disappointment. An angmoh in front of me probably felt the same thing, cos the next thing he did, he looked left, saw a faint trial downslope thru all the vegetation, and took off. At the same time, I was looking at that trial too and decided to take the risk of bashing thru the vegetation downhill. It was quite dangerous but really really exciting. Reminds me of army days. Eventually, I reached the bottom, but had no idea where I was, on some other side of the mountain. All in all, was proud that I climbed a mountain on a 7kg backpack.
Then I walked aimlessly in Bergen, just plainly seeing the beautiful buildings and then I saw a castle and walked towards it. After trying to open the castle door a few times and asking a few pple, I realised that the castle is closed. Disappointed. I walked to some building, sat down and finally decided to read my guide and plan my activities for the next day. Realised that almost all places in bergen closes at 4pm, including all the tourist attractions (what kind of f up city is this?). Realised that the acquarium is still open and its said that its a must-visit place in bergen, and that you can take bus 12 from the tourist center. Was asking a few passer-bys how to get to the bus stop and ALL of them said "in bergen, its way faster to walk, cos you can get to anywhre by walking". 1 particular passerby offered to walk me there cos she was gg in e same direction. She's been in sg and we were just talking and walking and she told me that I could actually take a ferry to the other side of bergen, and it would be just a 5 min walk to the acquarium. I figured that I dont have much time left, and that the bergen card would probably get me a free ride. Besides, the habour is really beautiful. So I said bye to her and tried the ferry. Well. Ferry ride wasnt for free, but lady gave me discount. I paid 16Kr. Pretty cheap for a ferry ride. MUCH CHEAPER than that at the Singapore river. Finally got to the acquarium. Was quite impressed to see the seal and penguins, esp when they can just come out in the open, cos its like winter (cant do that in sg). Walked inside the acquarium, Initially was impressed, but later realised that its really really a sub sub standard compared to underwater world in sg. Then I ventured into the reptile area and it was DARK. There were so many crocs in cages all around me. Went to this cage and you know what. When the croc saw me, it slowly went under the water, and stealthily creep towards me. WOW. I mean, you see that in national geographic that crocs creep towards their prey without noise or motion. But you really have to experience it. Of cos, we were seperated by a cage but I still felt the sense of fear. It reached the end of the cage and mischevious me, decide the kick the cage. IMMEDIATELY and yes IMMEDIATELy, the croc sprang up and tried to bite me. Unsuccessfully of cos. But then, you realise how deadly, quick, stealth and dangerous these creatures are.
Probably the most disgusting of it all is to see the ANACONDA. LIVE. IN A GLASS CAGE in front of you. Its disgustingly long, and fat and the thought of it gives me the chill. Down hair down. Well. Again, I was ill prepared and stupid enough to think that the feeding show is at 6pm, only to read it again and realised that in winter, 6pm feeding show is off.
Walk around in bergen at night. Till I saw a supermarket and bought some cheap, digestive biscuits to cure my hunger and eat my mat pakke. And I wanted to think so somewhere else to go, because I dont want to waste my time in bergen just lazing around in my accomodation. So I was asking random people again, where to go at night in bergen. No one knows, except that in town (which is 5 mins walk), shops closes at 9pm. Which is bloody late, considering that Norwegian shops close at 4pm. So I was asking pple how to get to town, what bus to take and they said "JUST WALK" so I followed the harbour and walked and it was a really really awesome walk. At town, it was pretty, but typical shopping, like orchard rd, which I dont really fancy. Coming to Norway, I realised that orchard road is really way better than any shopping districts here. Then I walked till a junction, saw some cool building to my left and right, and decide to turn right. Reached the national theatre which look grand. Then I tried to read the map to get to some other area and ended up LOST. Even after I asked some passer by directions, I stubbornly went on my way (thats cos his directions were quite misunderstandable) and ended up really really lost. Like on the highway, beside the sea, to no where. But then STUBBORN me again, who always refuse to walk backwards, thinking that im wasting my time and effort doing that. Eventually, I reached the row of Museums but obviously, there were all closed. And I was so tired, being walking and lost for almost an hour on a 7kg backpack, that I just collapse and sat on the grass and read my guide, planning what to do tmr. Then I saw a gorgeous church. Gorgeous. Like the best Ive seen so far. Anw. Peter called me and asked me where I am and what time im coming. I was like 9? And he said "have u eaten dinner?"
me "no"
he "ok then u're eating dinner with us"
me "well but i didnt buy anything for u"
he "nonono. u dont have to. just come"
me "ok. how to come again?"
he "take bus .... from tourist...... forget it. are you chinese?"
me "yes"
he "ok i'll get my chinese fren to explain to u"
me (thinking to myself) : Peter, that isnt really gonna help. I think I'll have an easier time understanding ur english accent, than some CHina chinese that goes at bullet speed
China guy "ni hao"
me "can u speak eng instead? cos my chinese is bad"
China guy "oh."
China guy to Peter "he speaks english, not chinese"
But China guy told me how to get there. I think Ive an easier time understanding China's bad english than europe's bad english, cos Ive met them more.
Was asking the bus driver to tell me to get off when I reach NHH. In norway, u just have to keep reminding the bus driver cos they're like sgreans - minding their own business - esp since they dont like to speak english. Then I alighted. And was looking where to go when suddenly, a man shouted at me across the street. "Excuse me"
Me: "hi"
Him: "r u going to hatlebe?"
Me: "yea. sorry im a tourist, i cant show u where it is"
Him: "nono. Hatleberg is that building."
Me: "Oh?" (thinking. how the hell u know what i was looking for?)
Him: "I saw you on the bus"
Me: "Oh. Thank you so much" (Still have no idea. guess I look like a student)
walked up and called Peter. He had a terrible time understanding my english. Eventually we met and he was really super nice. He actually BAKED me a large salmon fillet, gave me potatoes and so much food. OMG. I felt like a guest. He was like "we come from different parts of the world. So I dont know what u like or dont like. So i just put everything here and u take what u like"
Peter, dont u know that sgreans eat anything and everything? Esp me. He asked "u eat vegetables?u want some?"
Me: "yea"
He: "Ok I cook for u now"
Me: "oh nono, its alright"
He: "its no problem, i just boil it"
Me: "ok:
He: "Is this enough?"
Me: "Yea for sure"
He: "ok then its not enough. I give u more"
Me : Omg.
After dinner (which i ate for very long), Peter ask if I want to take a walk, or if im tired since i walked the whole day. Honestly, after coming to Norway, I walk everyday and I like it. So yea. He showed me NHH, his university (Norwegian school of economics whatever...) He has access card cos he is a phd student. So we got to the dinning area at night, overlooking bergen from the other side, and it was beautiful. Interestingly, he found a way up to the roof for the 1st time, but it was unsuccessful. Pity he said. Then we walked and talked, pretty much. I can understand his accent very fast, and he picked mine up even better. Was funny really.
Me: "Peter, the only thing I rmb from ur profile is that u said if im jessica alba, then i can share the bed with u. I cant rmb where u're from"
Peter: "HAHAHA. that one. So that means u cant share my bed. too bad. Im from Slovakia"
Me: "Its alright. Bcos I love alba too"
Really nice of him to bring me to this beautiful place, beside the sea, to sit. And he was like "this place has many beautiful memories for me. spent tons of time here over the 2 years with many close international friends"
And then, he slipped on the rocks and fell. 1.9 metres. Heavy and clumsy fall. And he was bleeding on his palm, which he was really really bothered about.
Went back. And this time, he actually offered his bed to me, while he volunteered to sleep on the mattress. Of cos, im not gonna allow that. After all, im just crashing his place for free accomodation.
Next morning, woke up. Peter woke up LATE. And he said he wanna cycle and show me round. But since I had plans, I thought otherwise. Maybe Im not that wise. Well. He cooked me a FABULOUS breakfast. While he ate only Oranges. wth.
He: Do you eat/want egg?
Me: (Thinking that he wanted and so he sun bian ask me) ya
He: Ok then I'll cook egg for u
Me: (Saw that he took it out for me) Oh nono. That's no need
He: Its ok. How many egg? Fry or boil?
Me: 1 Egg. Anything will do
He: Ok that means 2 Eggs for u.
Me: -_-... You are so damn nice la.
I ate such A long breakfast. And disappointingly, he didnt want my coke nor my chips which I bought for him. So I finished the coke myself. (Which is heavenly since I have not tasted sweet drinks for so long).
After that, it was already 11. And past the time that I plan to visit bergen's sites (bergen's toursits spots opens at 11am, close at 4pm. Slack shits).
Decided to borrow his bike and cycle round bergen so that I can get to places faster. Didnt realise that he stay so far away from other city. Well.
Change of plans. 1st stop, Feeding show. Went past the castle and decide to see if its open. Well, its suppose to be, but found it closed. (I was so rushing for time la) Only to find out later at the tourist center that the 2 castle building side by side, one is open, the other is closed. STUPID Bergen. (Srsly, their guide is UTTERLY badly organised. The pages dont even follow the correct order of numbers) So I paddled like crazy to make it in time for the feeding show. And I reached the acquarium, panting, and showing the staff my bergen card. She saw me panting badly, knew that I was rushing for the show and smiled. Show wasnt too bad, but really, Sg's zoo owns them hands down.
Next, went to the lake to eat my mat pakke and visit some museum. Actually ended up visiting one. Urh. Museums no longer excite me that much, esp painting. Cos i feel that Oslo's National gallery completely blew me away and owns every other art museum. My time limit there is only like 20mins anw. Exceeded it.
Next, I found out that the Aladin castle is acctually free. I can take a bus, and a ferry for free to the ulu Island where only the beautiful castle is. So I rushed to the tourist center and asked them where to take the ferry/bus. And DISAPPOINTINGLY, they said "the ferry only works in summer" So it spoiled my whole plan and suddenly I felt that I had too much time. Went to the fish market which was really good. Like those market in Sg, with better seafood they have. A norwegian fish monger recognised me as a tourist and gave me a fresh shrimp to try. DAMN SWEET. Srsly, what can i do next man? Visit the University of bergen's row of museum? Ok. thats the only thing to do. Went there. Cldnt know which building was which. So the boat museum 1st. Utter waste of time and I dont know why i spenT SO much time there. Maybe cos the staff was really really nice and warm. Then to the whatever museum. The catholic and christian place was interesting at 1st, then u stay there for too long and it gives me the creeps. Imagine 10 jesus hanging on crosses looking at u all the time. Yucks.
Did a quick one. Off to the Zoological Museum (which should be the 1st stop). This is really the only museum that I recommend in Bergen. Its so grand and stuff, but most imptly, what it shows inside. Man. All the animals are real, dead, and preserved. Wasnt that keen on land animals though. The sea ones blew me off. There were real skeletons of whales. One blue whale skeleton blew me away. It was AMAZINGLY HUGH. its skull is probably bigger than my body. And disgustingly again, I had to meet the Anaconda like 10 metres long? yucks.
B4 I left, or rather the museum close, I talked to the staff there and he was telling me this museum is owned by the university. Students go there for free (lucky them), the public can send in their stones or whatever to be examined by the professors and get a report. And stuff. Pretty cool.
Next stop, science center. And realised from the tourist center that the shuttle bus there does not work on Sat. Can you Norwegians be less slack and work more? Damn. Srsly. Took out my map, and from yday's experience of getting lost, I take orientation of the map srsly this time. Realise that it was acutally pretty easy to get there. And the bike ride there was so great, cos it went past a park. Reached the center. DISAPPOINTED. DISGUSTINGLY DISAPPOINTED. There were like kids all over, and it isnt even HALF as good as singapore science center. not even half or close to half as good. It was a complete waste of time, and i so couldnt understand the sciences on display. There were stupid, not much scienctific phenomena at all, not impressive. the only thing I did good there, was that I ride the bicycle that takes me 360 degrees round and round. Dont go. save your 80 kr. not worth any cents. Unless u got bergen card. But then u're wasting ur time. My advice, which luckily i did w/o knowing, go there after 4pm when every other sites are closed. take the rather peaceful and serene ride through the park to get there. The park is better.
Ate my mat pakke at the pond where there are SO many ducks. Nice. Ducks come to me cos they think i got food. Then they dont like my bread and left. -_-"
went round the city, decide to visit the huge city pond again (some pple call it lake. i dont), and decide to visit all the landmarks on the map, to bergen store center and stuff. Bergen store center was boring. The lib seems interesting but din go in. Found the railway, went to bergen cathedral (the tourist center insist that is a cathedral and the other one is a church. Both looks same to me. Church looks much newer) Went to pond. Called huixiang, met him. Chatted. He asked if i want to come to his hostel. I said I want to go up the mountain once more, to see the night view, this time, taking the train up since I have the bergen card, I can go 1 ride for free. He showed me to the train center and there, I went up myself. While waiting for the train, said hi to a norwegian and we chatted. Really quite an interesting chat, esp of how she told me she went to North cape! Wow. That's even further than tromso (which is 350km into the artic circle alr) Makes me wana go there. hmmm. Tromso, then north cape? Hehe.
Went up, disappointed with the view cos it was drizzling and hence cloudy. Ie. im abv the clouds so i cant see much. So, walked around the mountain, and realised that are other cool spots to see the city.
