Day 4, Dover

Day 4. I took a trip to Dover. Planned to get to Dover's castle, White Cliffs of Dover, then to Cantebury, then back to London. Hence I contemplated on buying a return ticket. In Italy and Norway, the return ticket costs twice the one way, so it makes no difference. However, this was a bad mistake in UK. After this mistake, I learnt another day that the return ticket in the UK costs the same, or 1 pound more than the one way. Crazy. As a result, I blew my budget for my first trip out of London.

When the coach reached Cantebury, it looks nice from the outside. Romanic ruins. A city fenced by an ancient wall. And an Amazing Cathedral which I saw from a distance. However, when the coach reached cantebury coach central, it didnt lived up to its name inside. I continued to Dover, as it was my priority.

At Dover.
A medieval cathedral.

The Dover Castle at the top of the hill.

A long way up Dover Castle.

I climbed the stair and reached the top. I stood at the entrance which says tickets away from the entrance. This is so strange. I saw an old couple buying tickets, but decided to walk in instead. Nothing happened. I went in for free.

This sovenior shop of Dover Castle is quite lame. Full of boys toys.

Where they had military meeting when the castle was at war.

Spotted a fellow lonely planet traveller.

Done with the castle. Exceeded my time. Next, heading to the White Cliffs. The signs there were so confusing and people on the streets didnt help. Most pointed me to follow this road. I followed the road uphill and ended nowhere. A man told me that's not the way. He was sure because he walked there yesterday. Soon, after passing by a map, I realise that most people pointed me to the road which cars used to get into the White Cliff's preservation area parking. What the hell. I dont have a car there, and it would be terribly long and impossible to get there on foot for the day. Thankfully, another man pointed me to a shorter way there, by foot, 30mins.

 Look, Dover Castle behind me.

Trekking along the white cliffs, is exciting experience. It feels like I could fall off anytime. Unlike Cinque Terre of Italy, the white cliffs has totally no barricade.

I breaked for lunch here, with a good view, and a weary body.

Haha. This made me laugh.
The inhabitants of the White Cliffs.

Going to the bottom of the Cliffs. 2 English punks at the bottom. Later, when the back up, I was still at the bottom. And they started throwing rocks downwards. I wasnt sure if they were targetting me, but it was bad experience. I had to hide among the rocks, away from them, from their sight until they eventually left. And trekking back, I avoided them. I ended up missing my bus back to London and took the very late bus back. I was simply deadbeat when I reached back Heather's apartment.
Near the bottom of the cliffs, you see some strange tunnels.

  The tunnels
I guess, they are used for war purposes, since this area has been war-torn before.

Photoshoot at the cliff. Perhaps thats what triggered the 2 English punks - my narcisism.

The bottom of the white cliffs is terribly hard to walk. Its a pebbles beach, and I keep spraining my ankles.

Strange land formations.

Together with its strange rock formations and a pebbled ground, it has several detailed potholes too.

And while waiting for the punks to finish / give up aiming at me, I hid under the rock, and took pictures to my "pocket friends and family".

I also searched for unique rocks, for my friend, serene, who is a passionate physical geographer and a keen rock collector. Here's 2 of the best I've found.

The White Cliffs of Dover. Enuff said. Its worthy of a visit.
End of Day 4
