In most part of Europe, Norway, germany, sweden, denmark, I dont know where else, but seems like alot of places, they have free education until masters
I was so damn upset b4 I came here cos the masters degree in Nus is like 60,000! Fuck man. I wldnt pay that even if I got the money. Plus the opportunity cost and u know, i can never earn that amount back in my life. So its totally not worth it. And I thought my dreams were gone, got so upset.
And then I came Norway, met a Singaporean who graduated in engineering in Nus and is now studying Masters in not engineering but psychology in Norway. Its so easy to get into a Masters programme here, just take some prereq courses. And the Masters is FREE! And after that, they get paid so much more working in Europe than in Sg. What the hell.
In short, study lesser (lesser years even), work lesser, party more, get paid more. Tell me sing city. What makes u so attractive? To a student at least.
I was told. Average Norwegian earns 10,000 sing - take home pay after taxes. Study much lesser, earn much more. And best - dont need to pay for studies. My sec best friend desmond once calculated - did you know, the tuition fees you're paying to Nus means that you pay about 30 dollars and hour to the lecturer in Nus. What. For such a lousy lecture? Oh and speaking of 30 sing per hour, today I realise, the part-time sales girl at the shopping mall gets paid 30 sing per hour.
And the opportunities in Europe are so many. My ogl wanted is studying Psychology in Oslo. 3 years all it takes. And then she wants to take Masters in Psychology and Economics combine. They dont have it in Norway. So she goes to Denmark. And its so near Norway as well. She's actually going to Denmark next week just to inquire about the programme and then come back. Its also really cheap to get to Denmark. And the Masters programme is again, Free. Its soo awesome. If only Malaysia and Indonesia are like Sweden and Denmark.
Some europeans take few years off after their JC to tour europe. Air ticket from Norway to germany can actually cost as low as 18 sing.
I remember a friend remarked over lunch "u know, the girls in my proj group, took 1 year off their study. To work and stuff. Nowadays, sgreans good life hor. Can even take break off studies."
And I was thinking. Ya lo. good life hor.
Haha. u nv know what good life is until you come here.
Lastly, the ccas here are so much cooler than in Nus.
The psy soc is actually working with Elizabeth Loftus - the famous on false memory - and in contact with the government over the psychology happenings in Norway, what should and should the government not do. Oh my.
The university actually owns museums in the city, some of which are world renowned, like the Viking Museum full of archeology excavations.
Right. Period.
